Mecobalamin is the neurologically active form of vitamin B12.It is a cofactor in the enzyme methionine synthase, which functions to transfer methyl groups for the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine. In anaemia, it increases erythrocyte production by promoting nucleic acid synthesis in the bone marrow and by promoting maturation and division of erythrocytes. vitamin B12, used in megaloblastic anaemia, and peripheral neuropathies.

Dosage: As directed by the physician.
Precautions: The prolonged use of larger doses of Mecobalamin is not recommended for patients whose occupation requires the handling of mercury or mercury compounds. Absorption of vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract may be reduced by neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, histamine H2 antagonists, omeprazole, and colchicine. Serum concentrations may be decreased by use of oral contraceptives.
Side Effects: Anorexia, nausea, vomiting,diarrhoea, rash, headache, hot sensation, diaphoresis, pain/induration at IM inj site, anaphylactoid reactions (parenteral).
